At a southern holistic group meeting in July Neville Bryant showing Neil Blackmore the difficulty in pulling apart the thatch at the top of the soil profile. This is a classic sign of poor nutrient cycling and an indicator of mineral locked in the soil unable to create biological wealth and improved financial returns. Soil tests revealled a low magnesium base saturation which may be compacting the soil, reducing the effectiveness of the water cycle, therreby creating more run off and nutrient loss. Low soil magnesium also influence animal health especially at lambing.
